
Emeritus Prof Robert WH Pho Emeritus Consultant Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery, National University Hospital
Concurrent appointment: Emeritus Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Singapore Professor Robert Pho is the founding Chief of the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery. He is the "Father" of Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery in Singapore , and continues to push the frontiers for these disciplines even now. Professor Pho is actively involved in training at all levels: from medical students to post-graduates, and has inspired and influenced many generations of doctors and surgeons. He even serves as a mentor to many consultant surgeons, sharing his vast amounts surgical experience and know-how. Known to be a strict disciplinarian and demanding boss, he never fails to bring out the best in his trainees. His current clinical practice still includes complex surgeries like musculoskeletal oncology congenital hand surgery and orthopaedic reconstructive surgery. World renowned for his surgery and research, Professor Pho is a much sought-after speaker at many international meetings. For his immense contributions to teaching, research and clinical medicine, Professor Pho was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor by the National University of Singapore, the first surgeon in Singapore to receive this honour. He was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Healthcare Group in 2004 for his clinical work.
