Dr David MK Tan Associate Consultant Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery, National University Hospital The latest addition to the department, Dr. David Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and obtained his Masters of Medicine in Surgery in 2005 and joined the department in the same year. Even in his undergraduate days, he had always been a hands-on person, having a passion for carpentry and building and repairing things. So it was little surprise that after his initial exposure to hand and reconstructive microsurgery during his stint as a medical officer in 2002, that he fell in love with the specialty and the way it suited his personality. The diversity of the procedures performed in the discipline and the requisite variety of skills needed continues to be a stimulating and pleasurable challenge for him. Competing closely with his passion for hand surgery is his family as well as his keen interest in wine. With the little time he has , he finds it a tough struggle deciding whether his time is best spent with his wife and daughter, expanding his knowledge and collection of wines or doing related academic research. As the call of duty is strong, he can be found most times (like most doctors) in the hospital at work, doing what keeps him happy.
