Dr Andre Cheah graduated in 2003 from the National University of Singapore in 2003 and completed his membership examinations for the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 2005 and the Masters of Medicine (Surgery) examination in 2007. He completed his basic surgical training in 2007 where he spent majority of his time in departments where Reconstructive Surgery featured heavily namely Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery. He joined our Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery in May 2007 as an advanced specialist trainee and has since proved himself to be a keen student of surgery. His current research interests include a collaborative project with the Engineering Departments of the National University of Singapore and Singapore Polytechnic investigating novel tools to evaluate and study the biomechanics and function of the human hand. He is also collaborating on an anatomical-histological study to further elucidate the nature of the innervation of the upper limb. Dr Cheah is also someone with a varied number of interests. He is active in community work and is currently involved in initiating a program to provide school sportsman with easy access to medical care for their sports injuries. He is also involved in the track medical team for the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix. He participates at least annually in humanitarian medical missions to communities in need and hopes to one day run his own. He is an avid runner and can be found pounding the trails in nature reserves in Singapore when not at work.
